I’ll come right out and say it right now this review is my 100% honest review of the latest release from DCS World. The ORBX made Kola Map.
From the outset I’ll give you the good. It loads nicely and it doesn’t have any issues running on my PC. But there are very good reasons why it loads fast.
The loading times are thanks to it’s very small area that is fully optimized and mapped fully. You get about 30-40% of the land map that is actually “complete”. Even with that being said there are airports missing and for me, I cannot believe this map is worth the expense.
For those of us who remember OrbX from MSFS, We know what they are capable of. So is it a DCS World engine issue. Or are they just taking very tentative steps into the world of DCS. Only time will tell as they have promised more of the map will be optimized and textured over time and that more Airfields are on there way as well.
i really hope this map gets the love it deserves. I understand why Eagle Dynamics were rushing to get this map out. But I wish they’d if waiting until it was closer to completion.
